Flush a water heater.
This boring but important household chores should be done at least once a year to remove deposits that accumulate at the bottom of the tank.
This is especially true if you live in a difficult environmentwater area.
This task is easy to complete because it cannot be seen-
But skipping it will cost you a lot.
Precipitation will reduce the heating efficiency of the water heater.
One sign of all the excess sediment deposits is the burst or rumble from your water heater.
This is the sound of steam bubbles penetrating from the muck.
On gas water heaters, these devices generate hot spots that can damage the tank and cause early failure.
On the electric water heater, the accumulation of sediment will cause the heating element to fail.
Therefore, flushing provides a return on reducing energy costs and extending the life of the heater.
However, you may be surprised if you have never rushed the water heater, or have not rushed for several years.
Once you open the drain, the sediment may block it and prevent you from closing the valve all the time after the drain is discharged.
Then you will find sediment build up and water heater leaking.
We will show you the best way to discharge sediment from the most neglected heaters and save you $200 in service costs.
You will need to purchase about $40 in plumbing components from the home center, garden hose, wet vacuum cleaner, pliers and pipe pliers.
Buying parts not only will the old drain be clogged, but you will not be able to suck the pieces away through its small opening.
The key is to build a new drainvalve with 3/4-in. full-
Port brass ball valve with threaded end ($12), a 3-in. x 3/4-
Galvanized joint ($1. 50), and a 3/4-in. MIP xG. H.

One option is that there is no BrassCraft/Plumbshop. HU22-12-12TP; $8).
A workshop vacuum adapter is then manufactured.

About $10 for these parts).
Start the drainage process to turn off the gas or electricity of the water heater, turn on the hot water faucet and let it fully explode for about 10 minutes to reduce the water temperature in the water tank.
Then close the cold water valve at the top of the tank and connect the garden hose on the existing drain and route it to the floor drain. (
Catch food using a kitchen colander so it doesn\'t clog the floor drain. )
Then open the hot water faucet and water heater drain valve on the upper layer.
Let tankdrain drain water before the sediment blocks the valve and reduces the flow.
Then close the hot water faucet upstairs and the water heater drain valve.
Next, remove the clogged drain valve and in the new full-portvalve.
But first, eliminate the blow
Off-tube and temperature regulator (TPR)
Valve and apply the suction to the tank so that you will not be soaked when you pull the old drain valve (Photo 2).
Then exchange the valve (Photo 3).
Remove the vacuum hose from the TPR port and complete the drainage of the water tank.
Most of the sediment will pass through the complete-port valve.
To remove the rest, open the cold water valve at the top of the tank for a short period of time and spray it towards the drain.
If you still can\'t get the last point out, try cleaning it up with a vacuum cleaner (Photo 4).
After completion, close the ball valve and keep it in place.
But please remove the lever handle to prevent accidental opening.
Then reinstall the TPR valve and blow-off tube.
Refill the water heater and turn on the gas or power and you will return to the hot water without all the noise.
